Julia,
Thanks for reading, commenting and for the compliment.
I didn't mean to offend by my comments about Joel Osteen. I know his ministry reaches and helps many people.

I guess my concern about him is that (1) his message emphasizes prosperity and that (2) he often does not walk his own talk. For example, I recently saw an ad with the Osteens about what they like most about Houston -- a pro-tourism ad. And what they mentioned is how much they love dining at Tony's and Vic and Anthony's -- two of the most upscale and expensive restaurants in Houston. During the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he was over at at Astrodome and I remember Larry King asking if he was taking in evacuees in his huge church. He looked a bit sheepish when he said no. Too bad he could not have opened the doors to the old Compaq Center to relieve the crowding at Reliant Park. That situation with Continental Airlines bothered me mostly because they fly first class, again something the average person he tries to reach cannot afford. And this summer while studying at a university, I saw a game based on his most recent book in the campus bookstore. Somehow, I don't see religion as a game or a merchandising opportunity.

That's why I personally have a problem with Pastor Osteen. I am sure his heart and faith are in the right place, however, I think that his lifestyle tends to separate him from the very people he tries to reach. He won't find them dining at Tony's that's for sure!

Again, thanks so much for taking time to read my blog and comment. I really need to work on it more!

Peace!

I am a fan of anyone who can write intelligently, concisely and creatively. It is, I agree, a great loss to anyone who appreciates good books. Hurtful remarks from the blogger such as Joel Osteen being a huckster of tripe are totally unnecessary. I, for one , need his encouraging uplifting spiritual truths now more than ever. Apparently, so do thousands of other people. God bless you.

And a good look into how a child thinks. (and children do think and very smartly too I might add)

Sorry for the delay in getting your comment logged in.

Kislev is the Jewish month (on the lunar calendar) in which Chanukah is celebrated. Sorta of equates with December.
BTW, the Jewish calendar doesn't have a leap year but a leap month!

Ah, you said it all so well. Columbus as his century's Gilligan. Wonderful

Making the day after Thanksgiving the day to honor Naive Americans is so insulting, it is chilling.

Why not choose a day that actually has significance to Native Americans, such as June 25 th, with the Souix/Cheyenne, etc. victory at The Battle of Greasy Grass Creek (The Little Bighorn).

I love Munch. I think he was reincarnated on 7 separate shows at last count?

I thought that Belzer would be the perfect name for my next dog -- especially if s/he were big and cuddly.

Thanks, Rafi's Mom. Look forward to your visit on the "other" blog!

Brilliant writing as usual.

I started an answer when it first went up, and then my answer became so long, I finally posted it to EROT instead as part of how I felt about the Blog closing.

Chicating, I had just been thinking of Munch and crew and how many times Belzer has managed to reincarnate Munch, who is now a detective in an upcoming book.

At the same time having Keith go AWOL right after the Blog closed has created a certain level of panic, as if none of it was ever quite real.

Perhaps we need to write a mystery novel and make Keith the fictional detective.
